The Philadelphia AFL-CIO is organizing a May Day demonstration at Philadelphia City Hall on Friday, May 1 at 4:00pm. The Revolutionary Communists of America applaud this initiative and are launching a communist campaign for May Day. We call on all revolutionaries in Philadelphia to build this important action while bringing communist politics into the struggle!

A BLOODY LEGACY

In May of 1886, dozens of unarmed workers in Chicago were beaten, shot and killed by the police. Their crime? Fighting for an 8 hour workday. May Day is not just a celebration of past sacrifices. It is a call to action, a reminder that the working class is still carrying on the same fight. And we need to go on the offensive.

THE CLASS WAR TODAY

Today, millions regularly work 40+ hours a week or multiple jobs just to make ends meet, despite massive gains in productivity. The world’s 12 richest individuals own more than half the world’s population. Major CEOs make 300 times more than the average worker. Meanwhile, almost one in four workers in the US are functionally unemployed, and six in ten live paycheck to paycheck.

A SYSTEM IN CRISIS

Shock waves are rippling through society: genocide and imperialism abroad, and rampant inflation and ICE terror at home, all while the rotten Epstein class line their pockets with record profits. With each convulsion, more workers are realizing that these are not isolated events, but interconnected failures of a system that has to go.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE?

People are tired of endless marching and symbolic action. They know appeals to the ruling class’s politicians, courts, or laws are futile. The Parker administration proved this last summer with its endless injunctions to cripple the DC33 strike. But the mood in our city is not pessimistic: it is angry, defiant, and motivated. Workers are hungry for answers and organization.

Minneapolis has shown the way. A general strike calls into question who provides the real value in society and who holds the real power. But in order to exercise this power, we need to be organized. We need our own party.

BREAK WITH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS!

Both Republicans and Democrats have used ICE to terrorize the working class, have cut social services while increasing police and military budgets, and have upheld laws like Taft-Hartley to keep strike actions toothless and apolitical. Ordinary people are desperate for another option.

FOR AN AMERICAN LABOR PARTY!

Unions cannot sit on the sidelines. In Philly alone, the AFL-CIO represents over 150,000 workers. Rather than pledging financial and political support to the parties of the ruling class, they could mobilize their resources and membership to decisively enter the class struggle on the side of the workers. We say:
