On October 3, the Revolutionary Communists of America held a national day of action in defense of the Cuban Revolution.
Right now, the Revolution is in serious danger as a result of US imperialism’s monthslong total oil blockade of the island. The US government is trying to strangle the Cuban Revolution, punishing the people of Cuba for the crime of carrying out a revolution and defying US imperialism in 1959.
To show our support for the Revolution and our solidarity with the people of Cuba in the fight against imperialism, the RCA organized rallies in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

Before the rallies began, comrades held meetings to discuss the history and gains of the Cuban Revolution. The overthrow of capitalism after the 1959 revolution led to the eradication of illiteracy and the development of a world-class healthcare system. This history is vital for all communists to understand. It shows that capitalism can be overthrown and that a planned economy can completely transform living standards for the majority of society.
At the rallies, speeches highlighted the heroic revolutionary traditions of the Cuban people, who inspired the workers of all countries by kicking out imperialism and abolishing capitalism for the first time ever in the Western Hemisphere.
Speakers described the enormous gains of the Cuban Revolution and the decades-long history of American imperialism’s attempts to reverse those gains by the most appalling methods: blockades, assassination plots, terrorism, and an attempted invasion.

We also highlighted that the people of Cuba and the workers of the United States have the same enemy: the US imperialists, who are attempting to starve the island into submission while growing rich on the fruits of the labor of workers in the US and around the world.

We were glad to have endorsements from Chris Smalls, Kshama Sawant, and a number of socialist and working-class organizations that came together to oppose US imperialism’s assault on the island. The rallies also received support from many people who passed by or saw advertisements for it on social media.

The Day of Action caught the attention of the left-wing Cuban editorial collective Punto Y Aparte, which published an interview with the RCA discussing our initiative and the work of the RCA more broadly. We have published an English translation of the interview.
The Cuban Revolution is an inspiration for workers and youth around the world who seek to throw off the chains of capitalist exploitation and build a society that functions for the benefit of the majority of society, rather than the corporations, bankers, and landlords. The Revolutionary Communists of America will continue to defend the heroic gains of the Cuban Revolution by all means at our disposal.
As US capitalism continues to decline, more and more people are drawing the conclusion that we need a socialist revolution here in the United States. Overthrowing capitalism in the US will be the best way to preserve and defend the gains of the Cuban Revolution. We must continue to build an organized force that can eventually lead the working class to overthrow capitalism here in the “belly of the beast” of US imperialism.
