On Election Day, an energetic group of communists gathered at Western Washington University to spark discussions and inspire action among society’s most radical layer: the youth. We gave powerful speeches and asked students directly: “Does the two-party system really represent your interests?”

Our message cut straight to the heart of the issue—neither Democrats nor Republicans will improve the lives of working-class Americans because their interests lie with capital. We emphasized the urgent need to build a class-independent, revolutionary alternative to tackle climate change and end imperialist wars.

Students eagerly engaged with us and voiced intense frustration with capitalist “democracy.” They are more aware than ever of the injustices baked into capitalism: the widening wealth gap, the inaccessibility of education and healthcare, and the exploitation of our labor and the planet. Young people are hungry for a movement that channels their anger toward real change.

It’s up to us to show the youth that the RCA has the ideas, methods, and leadership needed to carry out the historic task of dismantling US capitalism—not just in words, but in deeds. We must invite them to join us in building the party without hesitation and with boldness and conviction—demonstrating that real change requires real sacrifice. The conditions are ripe for us to channel the rising tide of youth anger into a powerful revolutionary force—a force that will liberate the working class from the grip of capitalist oppression once and for all.
